Hi, I’m Matt Edwards. I live and work in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (my hometown) with my family – Dana, Allie, and Jude – whom I love to no end. If you know me in person, you know I enjoy getting into great discussions where we share perspectives, explore ideas, and discuss the state of things; this blog is an extension of those conversations. The name, “Growth and Grind,” comes from the mindset I carry which is to be open to learning and unlearning things, looking for and saying yes to new experiences, and recognizing that sometimes getting shit done means rolling up your sleeves and grinding it out.
I’m passionate about people, leadership, and health and wellness because all three together are what allow us to do great things. People because the world is full of tremendous individuals and I consider myself fortunate to be surrounded by the amazing group I call my family, friends, and co-workers. Leadership because I want to positively impact the lives of others and thrive on bringing people together who believe in and drive towards a common purpose. And Health and Wellness because I believe we can support one another in finding balance and happiness in life through the interconnectedness of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness.
I read (or listen to) a lot of books, sites, and podcasts; watch an assortment of movies and shows; listen to a variety of music; have a lot of fun seeing the world; and love to explore whisky, with a great appreciation for scotch.
When I started this blog years ago, I branded everything with “wastedgenius” and my “About” line was:
At any moment of the day one of two things is happening: either my genius is being put to waste and I need an outlet, or I’ve been drinking and I’m truly a wasted genius.
I’d like to think I’ve grown significantly since then. The drinking part may still be true….
