It’s Christmas time and that means I get to once again enjoy my (favourite) advent calendar – the Whisky Advent Calendar! Each day I’ll update the post with the tasting notes of that day’s whisky.
An absolute killer expression from Caol Ila – one of my favourite distilleries!
Two years since the last whisky advent calendar – I drank a lot of good scotch in 2020, just none of it coming from a calendar in December. This year I decided I’d explore Kensington Wine Market’s Whisky Advent Calendar and will post my tasting notes of each day’s dram here. I’m ready (and I hope you are too) so let’s go!
Since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve had a bit more time – okay, a lot more time – to acquire and sample scotch. This tasting of five different whiskies happened over two days separated by four months. Certainly a far cry from the regular way of doing things but, these days, things are anything but regular.
For this tasting we went away from whiskies bottled by distillers and ventured into expressions crafted by independent bottlers. What surprised a lot of folks was how much flavour can be found in a young(ish) spirit and how smooth whisky can be at a higher alcohol percentage.
December is upon us once again and I’m excited to dive into the Sixth Edition of the Secret Spirits Whisky Advent Calendar. Each day I’ll update this post with the tasting notes and picture of the day’s whisky. Hope you enjoy following along as much as I enjoy tasting!
What a whisky! This one from an Orkney Distillery and bottled by Morrison & MacKay is amazing stuff and I love the layers throughout.
